A Quiet Place — somewhere between waking and sleep

Out now, everywhere you listen.
There’s a moment, each night, just before sleep takes over. Thoughts loosen their grip. Images begin to form on their own. You’re still there, still faintly aware of yourself — and then you’re not. A Quiet Place, the new EP by Jonathan Fitas, lives entirely inside that threshold.
For the first time in his work, there are no synths, no electronic textures, no layers to hide behind. Just two instruments: piano and violin — the violin being the one that brought Jonathan to music since childhood. This is a return to where it all began, and it feels like one. Five short, unhurried pieces, fully acoustic, infused with Debussy’s Preludes and Bartók’s Romanian Folk Songs — music that values the silence between notes as much as the notes themselves.
The record moves like a slow descent into sleep. When Thoughts Turn to Dreams opens the door, slow piano arpeggios carrying ethereal violin harmonics that drift above like a distant call. Elegy strips the dialogue down to its barest form — two instruments, nothing else, fragile and intimate. Pasithea’s Garden turns to movement: a soft, strange waltz named after the Greek goddess of rest, where modal harmonies bridge Debussy’s impressionism and the tonalities of ancient Greece. Dying Stars / Last Glow reimagines a piece from the Origines score, a single violin line turning a cosmic elegy into a lullaby. And Afterlight closes everything in near-silence — a bare solo piano meditation, the last light before sleep.
The four artworks were created entirely by hand by artist Sophia Vesna, whose watercolours give each piece its own quiet world. You can discover more of her work at sophiavesna.com.
